In the middle of the night on 19.07.2017 Thursday, a 6.5 magnitude quake, with an epicentre of approximately 6.4 miles hit the Turkey Coast. Two are reported killed and rescuers are still looking out for trapped people. More than 120 people have been injured on the Greek Island of Kos. The quake was strong and six miles deep and many more aftershocks of the quake have been reported, as per the US Geological Survey. The quake occurred on the South of Bodrum, 10 miles on eastern side of Kos. Shops are damaged and buildings have developed cracks, state KOS officials. The affected buildings were old and constructed before the introduction of earthquake building codes. Emergency services and the army, both have been called for help. Regional officials say that 2-3 of the injured people are in serious condition and are undergoing surgery. Tom Perry-Fox a tourist states that the earthquake was like a movie, pretty surreal. He did not know what was happening, the floor was vibrating, he was so scared. A 20 year old student, Lauren Duffy, was at the Atlantis hotel with her sister and mother. While speaking to the press she said they were awoken with really violent shaking, shattered glass strewn everywhere and screaming people to evacuate the place.
Many tremors were felt in the earthquake prone zones of Turkey and Greece in the recent weeks.
