His wife, Helen Snell, announced his death from their London home, describing David Soul as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist, and dear friend. She expressed that his smile, laughter, and passion for life would be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
David Soul honed his craft during his upbringing in South Dakota, his schooling in Minnesota, and his performances in North Dakota. Born David Richard Solberg on August 28, 1943, in Chicago, to June (Nelson) and Richard Solberg, he moved with his family to Sioux Falls in 1945. Richard, a well-known Lutheran scholar, teacher, and pastor, worked as a history and political science instructor at Augustana College. David’s early involvement in school and church activities revealed his talents in music, acting, and sports.
In Sioux Falls, David’s acting abilities were recognized by Earl Mundt, the theater director at Augustana College, during his fourth-grade performance as a leprechaun, garnering praise in the local newspaper.
