“We were returning from USA after participating in SAE Aerodesign East. We had two large boxes in which our aircraft models were packed. At Dallas airport, the airport authorities officers told us that both the boxes were oversized as per the zero-charges permissible limits. They told us that we would have to pay an extra amount of $260 for carrying the same.
We were not prepared for this situation at all because while travelling from Kolkata airport to Dallas, we didn’t face such issues. Hence, we had not paid any extra amounts for the boxes on that trip. We didn’t have that huge amount of money with us to pay off at that point of time. Our repeated requests to waive off the charges didn’t help us much and we had no option left other than leaving the boxes there itself.
Suddenly, a person (who looked like an Indian) came to us and asked if we had any problem. My friend told him about the matter. He simply replied – “I will pay the money. Don’t worry!”. Since there was no other way out of the problem, we accepted his help. Later, he told that his name was Amaad. I requested him to share his account details so that once we were back to India, we could return his money. He refused to share the bank details saying that there was no need to return it . We thanked him for his great help in our time of trouble.
Then I asked him about his native place to which he replied that he was from Karachi, Pakistan. We were numb and utterly shocked. He told us to just pray for him and wish him the best for life. After that, he left and got lost in the crowd.
This incident left a huge impact on me. It feels great to know that there are still some people on this earth who don’t care about caste, religion or country. It doesn’t matter if one belongs to India or Pakistan or any other country. It’s the thought process of an individual that matters. Due to such noble people, humanity still exists on earth.”
